The best place to head to search for out-of-print pattern books is Bette Feinstein's Hard to Find Needlework Books. Bette will search for any out-of-print needlework book you specify. She also has a large stock of old sewing and quilting magazines including Threads and Sew News.
Another excellent place to look for out-of-print needlework books is Bibliofind. Bibliofind taps into the inventory lists of second-hand bookstores around the country. The prices are pretty reasonable too.
Ebay is always a great place to hunt for vintage quilting and embroidery patterns. Use eBay's main Search feature to search for words like "cat" and "quilt," and variations of words too like "emb" for embroidery. I've snared some fantastic patterns on this Web auction site--like 19th century French embroidery transfers for just a few bucks.
A number of Web sites specialize in selling vintage sewing and craft patterns:
Beki's Sewing Patterns
Patterns from the Past
Lily Abello's Vintage Pattern Shop
Kaye's Fashion & Sewing Online
