Patterns for Cat Quilts with Embroidered Blocks, and Embroidery Patterns that Would Look Great on Cat Quilts "Kitties to Stitch & Quilt" by Nancy Martin offers iron-on transfers for 15 adorable kitties in domestic scenes for redwork embroidery. I was hunting for embroidery patterns like this for ages. This large book also includes several patterns for making pieced '30s feedsack-style quilts in which to use the kittie patterns. You can buy this book from the Cats Who Quilt Shop, or by hitting the Shopping button at the left.
Dougal Walker at Folk Art Stitchery N' Quilts sells this wonderful pattern for cat quilt with an embroidered top depicting cats doing cat-like things.
Gwen Falla in Scotland has founded an embroidery design company called Cat In the Attic. Her site also offers a message board for cat fans and embroiderers. This is one of my absolute favorites! It's a redwork pattern for a wall-sized quilt of a little girl sewing with her cat looking on. It can be used as the center of a quilt too. It's from Sentimental Stitches, 4759 Boyd Ave., NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525, 616/361-9255, e-mail ssquilt@aol.com.
"Penny Squares: Cats" -- During the early part of this century, one could buy squares of muslin stamped with embroidery designs for a penny. Children usually worked them in red, and they were later sewn into quilts. These are original penny square patterns of cats (you need to transfer them to muslinyourself with embroidery transfer paper). I wasn't terribly fond of them, but you may like them. Willa Bee Studio, 269 Woodland Dr., Orchard Park, NY 14127.
