Make Your Cat Proud to Be a Cat Quilter
with a Certificate of Membership
in the League of Cat Quilters!
When quilter and fellow cat lover Joni Prittie e-mailed to ask "My cat wants to know if she will get a certificate to show that she is a cat quilter" we know that we had to include one in our book.
On the last page of the book "Cats Who Quilt" you will find our original Certificate of Membership in the League of Cat Quilters.
But since many quilters will prefer to leave the book in tact and present their cat with their own framed certificate as an Authentic Cat Quilter, we decided to make the certificate available as a poster.
The Certificate of Membership in the League of Cat Quilters is 14" x 11" and is printed on heavy paper stock for easy framing.
For a limited time you can order both the Cats Who Quilt Book and the Certificate in poster form for $19.95. It makes a perfect gift for yourself or the cat-loving quilter in your life!
The text on the certificate reads:
"TO ALL QUILTERS WHEREVER YE MAY BE and to all sewers, knitters, embroiderers, crocheters, tatters, needlepointers, bobbin-lace makers, weavers, and tole painters, GREETINGS!
Know ye that on this ______day of ___________________in the year______
My cat ____________________ has passed all tests and inspections and been duly initiated in the LEAGUE OF CAT QUILTERS.
Be it known by whomever may be honored by his or her presence that membership in this League entitles one to Special Privileges including unlimited access to baskets containing pincushions and fabric snips, and the right to sleep undisturbed on any quilt in the house.
BE IT FURTHER KNOWN that as a member of the LEAGUE OF CAT QUILTERS he or she shall be revered in all places, particularly in sewing rooms and everywhere else where quilters congregate. In no instances shall a human chase this esteemed cat off a quilt crying, "You're making a mess of things!"
FINALLY, all humans in the household will feel honored to have in their midst a GENUINE CAT QUILTER and will do all they can to further their cat's quilting career including untangling thread from their cat's paws, fishing thimbles from his mouth, and unknotting fabric wound round his tail.

By the way, the certificate's text was inspired by a certificate that my father and his crewmates were given by the U.S. Navy during World War II when the LST they navigated passed the International Date Line in the Pacific. The certificate purportedly honored their initiation into THE
SOLEMN MYSTERIES OF THE ANCIENT ORDER OF THE DEEP. It is signed by Neptune Regis and is encircled by cartoons of phantastical sea creatures. It's always been inspiring to me that an organization such as the U.S. Navy had a sense of humor even during such a dreadful war. The certificate has hung beside my desk for nearly 20 years. It is truly a great country when a vet's daughter can transform his favorite war souvenir into a certificate for cat quilters! And a talented woman newly emigrated to this country can draw it!
